In John 15, Jesus is preparing His disciples for life after His death and ressurection. Jesus calls Himself the "True Vine", and in verse 5 He tells us that we are the branches on this vine. Jesus tells us "He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." In verse 6, Jesus tells us that any who do not abide in Him are gathered as dried branches and cast into the fire. When someone asks "What does your shirt mean?", point them to this scripture and help them to see that apart from Jesus we do not have life, all those that are not in Christ are gathered like dry branches and cast into eternal fire separated from God. But this will allow you to share the Good News that we can "abide in Christ" by putting our faith in Jesus as savior, and when we do we will have true life, both in Heaven and right now.
